The decision is made. You want a divorce or your spouse wants a divorce. Now you face perhaps the biggest challenge for a successful divorce settlement. You must choose a divorce attorney. At a time when you are vulnerable and perhaps not thinking as clearly as you need to be, choosing a partner to help you through this process is vitally important.

First, determine if you need an attorney or a mediator or a counselor or some combination of the above. Many states allow uncontested divorces to be handled in a non-adversarial process using a mediator rather than an attorney. Your own particular situation will help you determine your needs.

Try to negotiate with your spouse time to gather your thoughts and determine your needs without a rush to “legal-up” as soon as possible. Research on the web about the divorce laws in your state and learn what is required of you before choosing an attorney. Then- think about what type of attorney you feel most comfortable with as your partner in this process. Do you want an aggressive divorce lawyer or are you looking for a low-key relationship attorney? Call the bar association and ask about perspective attorneys you are considering. Ask your friends and family about lawyers that they might recommend. Interview at least three attorneys face to face to determine if you have a rapport with the prospective attorney and if you feel you can work closely with him or her. Check to see if they are certified or specialized in divorce law.

Once you have done your research, check with the bar association about any complaints or problems that may be outstanding with your prospect list.
Finally, remember that you will probably have to discuss intimate details of your life so it is vital you choose an attorney who is someone you feel comfortable with and can build a working rapport. Be sure the attorney you choose will purport himself or herself in the manner that reflects your morals and principles. This is a very important relationship and must be entered into with trust and mutual values and business practices.

Many people discuss the dilemma of illegal aliens in our country. This topic is extremely controversial and highly debated in many states. Opinions vary widely depending upon the region of the country in which you live. However, this blog concerns those foreign visitors who legally enter the United States. Foreign visitors have legal rights protected by the federal and state governments throughout our land.

International visitors add greatly to our nation’s cultural, education, economic, and business life. As a country, the United States has a long tradition of welcoming visitors from foreign lands to our shores.

Many Canadians and citizens from Visa Waiver Program countries can visit the United States without a visa. We do require a passport and identification regardless of the country of origin. Those visiting that do not meet the above requirements must obtain a nonimmigrant visa.

Nonimmigrant visas are for those travelers who come to the United States temporarily. This does not guarantee a visitor entry into the U.S. Each visitor must pass through the Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection. This applies to visitors coming to our country for tourism, business, medical treatment, and certain types of temporary work. The type of visa needed is defined by immigration law and it generally relates to the main purpose of your trip.

Most visa applicants must have an interview at a US consulate to obtain a visa. Generally a quick, inkless fingerprint will be required to obtain a U.S. visa. Nevertheless, travelers find that the United States is a welcoming country proud to show off our hospitality to the international traveler.

The National Women’s Law Center submitted on January 13, 2012, an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court to support of the provision of minimum coverage in the Affordable Care Act. The National Women’s Law Center filed the amicus brief in United States Department of Health and Human Services, et al v. State of Florida, et al on behalf of 60 organizations including itself. The brief explains in great detail what is at stake for women regarding how the law addresses discrimination against females in the health care industry, and why the Affordable Care Act provisions addressing the economic impact of gender discrimination is an appropriate use of the federal Commerce Clause authority and thus is constitutional.
