What Do Volunteer Advocates Do?
 
Trained advocates are ready to talk to women on the phone or to meet women in almost any safe and confidential place.  We are prepared to guide battered women through legal, medical, police, courts, and social services.
 
Upon Completion of 25 hours of Training you may Choose to :
 
1.  Become an advocate and be on-call 3/4 shifts a month:
  • Shifts are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. seven days a week.
  • You must have a phone and be available for incoming and outgoing calls.
  • You may work from home, a cell phone or any other phone.
  • You may do your normal activities as long as you are always able to receive calls and to return calls quickly.

3.   Serve on a Committee

 With Additional Training You May Choose to:

1.  Accompany women to court to file an Order For Protection or to attend a criminal proceeding.

2.  Provide a safe home for battered woman and children for one to three nights.

3.  Facilitate support groups for battered women who:

  • Want to talk to other battered women.
  • Want to seek a safer environment.
To Become A Volunteer, You Need To:
  • Believe that women do not choose to be abused.
  • Believe that women have the right to equality within intimate relationships.
  • Work easily with people of all ethnic, cultural, and economic backgrounds.
  • Maintain total confidentiality of the women we serve.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
