The National Women’s Law Center submitted on January 13, 2012, an amicus brief to the United States Supreme Court to support of the provision of minimum coverage in the Affordable Care Act. The National Women’s Law Center filed the amicus brief in United States Department of Health and Human Services, et al v. State of Florida, et al on behalf of 60 organizations including itself. The brief explains in great detail what is at stake for women regarding how the law addresses discrimination against females in the health care industry, and why the Affordable Care Act provisions addressing the economic impact of gender discrimination is an appropriate use of the federal Commerce Clause authority and thus is constitutional.
